Dr. Yuan Ming-chi, attending physician of cardiovascular surgery at Tai-An Hospital, said at the "Starting from the Heart, a Happy Life" health education lecture yesterday (19th) that the liver is specifically responsible for clearing excess cholesterol from the blood, especially during sleep, when the body is most effective at clearing cholesterol. Therefore, poor sleep quality and insufficient sleep time can easily lead to persistently high cholesterol levels.

Dr. Yuan Mingqi gave an analogy: the liver's function of clearing cholesterol is like an office cleaner cleaning the environment. If there's a meeting in the room, the cleaner won't go in to clean. Similarly, when the body is awake, the liver won't act rashly to clear cholesterol; it only begins its function when you're asleep. Therefore, getting enough sleep and maintaining a regular sleep schedule can help control cholesterol levels.

Since the body processes excess cholesterol while sleeping at night, it is recommended that patients with high cholesterol take cholesterol-lowering medication at night so that the body can clear cholesterol more efficiently.

Dr. Yuan Mingqi pointed out that poor sleep quality, insufficient sleep, and irregular work and rest schedules can also put stress on the body and cause blood pressure to rise. In addition to looking pale, this can also cause symptoms such as palpitations and nausea.

Doctors recommend that to lower cholesterol levels, you should "rest early, eat less, and burn more calories." Avoid staying up too late and ensure you get enough sleep. In terms of diet, eat more high-fiber foods and fish oil, and try to avoid high-fat and high-salt foods. Medication can also be used to help control cholesterol levels under the guidance of a doctor. In addition, moderate exercise can also help remove excess cholesterol from the body.

author[Reported by Su Xiangyun, Taipei] | Taiwan Shin Sheng Daily

News Source:Yahoo News

Poor sleep or insufficient sleep can cause cholesterol spikes.
